White allies: this is not a comprehensive checklist that means your work is done once you donate, read, and follow. This is a starting point for the work that we white people need to do to support the Black community. Give your money to Black-run causes. Support efforts to defund police departments and re-fund social services. Talk to your friends and colleagues about race. Get uncomfortable with yourself and examine your own biases and limiting beliefs. Let’s do this work together, because the Black community of America needs up to be the allies they deserve.

*Many Black activists and organizers have been doing their work for years and are feeling overwhelmed by the numbers of white woke folks coming to them this week. Be respectful of their boundaries. Remember that your voice isn’t the one that needs to be centered right now; how can you listen without commenting? Google your questions about race rather than asking these activists to do the emotional labour of explaining their pain to you.
